This drum accommodates 10 beautiful looking tube-lugs as well as matching die-cast hoops.
It has a lot of vintage depth tuned low and it really pops tuned up high. This snare drum suits every tuning range, all the way from low to high. The Black Magic snare drum produces a warm, round metallic tone and also has a hefty amount of body thanks to the 8” of shell depth, with the brass shell offering a lot of weight and attack. Ludwig pioneered the black-nickel over brass shell in the 1920s and set an unchallenged benchmark in quality. This fantastic drum brings the same signature sound and quality as its bigger brother- the iconic ‘black beauty’. It has been built to deliver tight, crisp projection with a huge full-bodied attack. Everything about this drum is sensational. My top recommended snare drum is the superb Ludwig Black Magic Brass Snare Drum with a powerful 8” of shell depth. I don't know what manufacture they actually are.Ludwig Black Magic 14圆.5 Snare Drum Review Top hoop is horribly warped due to over tightening of the t-rods. The hoops are diecast and look Gretschy to me but the bottom has a wide, square snare gate rather than the smaller oval of the Gretsch. It had a hexagon shape and was slightly domed. There is an interesting "grommet" 2/3 of the way up on the butt side which I suppose could have been the strainer side at one point, but who knows. There are several extra holes on either end so it may have had more than one aftermkt strainer/butt combo or the original needed alot of holes.
The strainer is 2pt generic as is the butt. It has been painted entirely in a matte black and the paint was scrubbed off the badge enough at some point to just read it. It is a 3 ply (I think) with rerings although I didn't bother to disassemble it for a thorough inspection. Okay, so here's the skinny: The drum is poor at best. That's all I could tell and didn't think it was worth a Sabian XS20 ride so I still have the ride!Īny ideas what this was originally with the extra info? I don't know what manufacture they actually are.
